Hello and Hi!
Hello, my name is Petra Baer. While I am a proud native Czech, I lived in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, for 25 years. Always fascinated by different cultures, the ultimate American melting pot of people from all over the world slowly became my new home. There, I studied, worked, and learned so much about various cultures from my friends and colleagues.
While in the US, I worked in and with various industries and professions, raised a family, and gained invaluable experience and perspective. My interest in people and their interactions led me to study sociology and communication, in which I earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, respectively. Because English has become somewhat of a universal language, I have also earned a TEFL certification to help me teach English effectively to students worldwide.
Thanks to my experience and education, I can assist students in achieving their language, academic, and professional goals by helping them apply English in the real world and master English in all its forms – speaking, reading, writing, and listening. However, because speaking a foreign language well requires understanding its culture and social norms, I weave that context into all my lessons. I love supporting students of all ages in transitioning from translating Czech sentences into English to speaking English.
I look forward to working with students on the daily application of English and special topics such as business English, academic essay writing, literature, social sciences, etc., as well as on preparation for international interviews, including composing resumes and job or school applications. While I teach in English, I’m happy to speak Czech to explain concepts or grammar if necessary.
